About Eye of Africa Blinds: shading a house that faces the veld

Eye of Africa Blinds is a measure-and-fit shading service for homes on Eye of Africa Golf and Residential Estate and the Midvaal areas around it. A fairway-facing glass wall and a bathroom window on the shaded side of the house are not the same problem and were never the same size, so everything is made to order for your own openings.

Built to face the view, which is not the same as built to face the sun

The estate runs to roughly 700 hectares in Midvaal, about 17 kilometres south of the Johannesburg city centre, with around half of it left as undeveloped Highveld grassland against the Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve. That is the whole appeal, and it is also the shading problem: no street canopy, no neighbour's wall, and a course laid out for wide, uninterrupted sightlines, so the biggest run of glass in most homes looks straight down the fairway or out over the veld with nothing between it and the sky for most of the day.

The range answers that from both sides of the glass: blockout, sunscreen and double roller blinds, day and night blinds, aluminium venetians that wipe down after a dusty winter, vertical, panel and concealed blinds for stacking doors and clean ceilings, cellular honeycomb blinds for the coldest rooms, external venetians and roller shutters that stop the sun before the pane, folding-arm awnings and zip screens for the patio, motorised blinds, automation and curtain tracks, and repairs and restringing of blinds you already own.

Where we measure and fit

Eye of Africa comes first, then the scatter of Midvaal-border villages and smallholdings with the same open-ground, big-glass brief. Walkerville is agricultural and equestrian country on stands measured in hectares, with more wind, more direct sun and usually more glass than a suburban home. Meyerton is a working town with a varied housing stock, from older face-brick houses with standard windows to newer builds with bigger glazing. Kliprivier is quieter riverside smallholding country where humidity and insects at dusk favour moisture-tolerant materials on a stoep. Henley-on-Klip is a river village of early cottages, family homes and weekend places whose best view is off a veranda pointed at the water.

Four steps, nothing guessed

An enquiry always runs the same way. You use the form or the chat to tell us the rooms, the glass and what is actually bothering you, whether glare, heat, privacy or all three. One of our expert consultants will contact you shortly to arrange a free in-home measure, ideally at the hour the worst room is worst. At that visit every opening is measured on site, the elevation is assessed to see what genuinely needs stopping outside the glass, and fabric, openness and control are settled room by room with slat and fabric samples in your own light.

A written quote follows with each window itemised, and nothing is manufactured until you have approved it. Pricing is confirmed on paper after the measure, never guessed over the phone, and the quote carries a firm fitting date once approved rather than an estimate. Then everything is made to those measurements, professionally fitted, tested and demonstrated, by one consultant start to finish with no call-centre hand-offs.

Why this estate is specified differently

Three things shape nearly every quote here. The sun, which at midsummer rises and sets well south of due east and west and sits almost overhead at noon, so the problem is rarely one wall but however many rooms face the view. The wind and the storms, which cross open grassland with nothing to slow them, so every exterior product is motorised with a wind sensor that retracts it before the gust arrives. And the estate's Architectural Guidelines, which govern what may hang on the outside of the house, so a spec sheet and fabric colour reference go in front of the committee before anything exterior is ordered. Child-safe, cordless operation is standard on everything.

What we will not do

We do not quote from a photograph or a phone description, and nothing on this site is a binding price. Our roller shutters are made for sun, heat, glare and privacy control on the outside of the glass; they are not security-rated, and a security product is a different item we can quote on request. We will not fit an exterior product without the estate's sign-off where one is required, we will not resolve the guideline wording on your behalf, and we will not motorise a window within easy reach just because it can be done. Where a repair is cheaper than a replacement, we say so before any work starts.

How to reach us

The form on any page or the on-page chat, which answers product and estate questions at any hour. An enquiry books a free in-home measure; it is not a purchase. Contact and chat details are collected solely to arrange your free measure and quote call-back, are handled under POPIA, and are never shared with a third party or used for anything else.
